Linking zonal winds and gravity – II. Explaining the equatorially antisymmetric gravity moments of Jupiter

چکیده

ABSTRACT The recent gravity field measurements of Jupiter (Juno) and Saturn (Cassini) confirm the existence deep zonal flows reaching to a depth 5 per cent 15 respective radius. Relating wind-induced density perturbations moments has become major tool characterize interior dynamics gas giants. Previous studies differ with respect assumptions made on how wind velocity relates anomalies, functional form its decay depth, continuity antisymmetric winds across equatorial plane. For case Jupiter, most suggested vertical structures exhibit rather smooth radial wind, which seems at odds observed secular variation magnetic prevailing barotropy winds. Moreover, results relied modifications surface flows, an artificial regularization or ignored discontinuity altogether. We favour alternative structure, where equatorially in latitude belt between ±21° remains so shallow that it does not contribute signal. higher latitudes suffice convincingly explain measured moments. Our indicate are barotropic, i.e. constant along cylinders, outer $3000$ km rapidly below. preferred structure is 50 deeper than previously thought, agrees odd moments, compliant requirement adiabatic atmosphere unbiased by treatment discontinuity. discuss possible implications for interpretation Jupiter’s field.

On the Speed of Gravity and the Jupiter/quasar Measurement

I present the theory and analysis behind the experiment by Fomalont and Kopeikin involving Jupiter and quasar J0842+1845 that purported to measure the speed of gravity. The computation of the vJ/c correction to the gravitational time delay difference relevant to the experiment is derived, where vJ is the speed of Jupiter as measured from Earth. Since the vJ/c corrections are too small to have b...

Antisymmetric Tensor Fields in the Locally Localized Gravity Models

We study the localization property of antisymmetric tensor fields in the locally localized gravity models. It is shown that all the antisymmetric tensor fields, including the vector field, in a bulk space-time are trapped on an AdS brane by a gravitational interaction where the presence of the brane cosmological constant plays an important role as in the cases of the other bulk fields. The norm...

August , 1997 Non - Abelian Gravity and Antisymmetric Tensor Gauge Theory

A non-abelian generalisation of a theory of gravity coupled to a 2-form gauge field and a dilaton is found, in which the metric and 3-form field strength are Lie algebra-valued. In the abelian limit, the curvature with torsion is self-dual in four dimensions, or has SU(n) holonomy in 2n dimensions. The coupling to self-dual Yang-Mills fields in 4 dimensions, or their higher dimensional generali...

On exact solutions in multidimensional gravity with antisymmetric forms

This short review deals with a multidimensional gravitational model containing dilatonic scalar fields and antisymmetric forms. The manifold is chosen in the product form. The sigma-model approach and exact solutions are reviewed.
